Graduate Diplomas in Economics, Finance and Financial Engineering

These Diploma programmes offer an introduction to economics and finance for those with no previous training in the area. They can be studied either as stand-alone programmes or as preparation for entry onto an MSc programme. The Graduate Diplomas in Economics prepares students for entry to the MSc in Economics, the Graduate Diploma in Finance prepares students for the MSc Finance, and the Graduate Diploma in Financial Engineering prepares students for entry to the MSc Financial Engineering.

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree but no prior knowledge of economics, finance or financial engineering is assumed. Applicants for the GDFE must additionally have a strong prior training in mathematics. Each Graduate Diploma can be completed over two years of part time study or as an intensive one year programme.

Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate in Mathematics

The Graduate Diploma in Mathematics and the Graduate Certificate in Mathematics are new programmes commencing in Autumn 2010. They have been designed for students with mathematical ability and a first degree in a quantitative subject. They are ideal as a way to top up existing knowledge, as preparation for further graduate study or as stand-alone courses that allow you to learn more about the areas of mathematics that most interest you.

To obtain the Graduate Certificate in Mathematics, you will complete two year-long (30 credit) modules over one year. To obtain the Graduate Diploma in Mathematics, you will complete four year-long (30 credit) modules over two years.

Graduate Diploma and Certificate in Statistics

The Graduate Certificate in Statistics course is intended mainly, but not exclusively, as a qualifying course for the MSc Applied Statistics and related courses for students who already have a bachelor's degree in a different discipline. The course will usually be taken over one year part-time, but may be taken over two years.

The Graduate Diploma in Statistics is a two-year programme designed for students with mathematical ability who wish to learn more about Statistics and its applications. By focusing exclusively on Statistics, this course allows you to cover all of the Statistics offered as part of our BSc Mathematics and Statistics programme
