MSc Finance with pathways to MSc Finance & Commodities and MSc Finance with AccountingActing Programme Director (from Jan 2013): Roald VersteegSpecialist knowledge of Finance is increasingly valued in commercial firms, banks, government and academia. Students on the Birkbeck MSc obtain excellent specialist training in financial economics including: basic portfolio theory, corporate finance and advanced pricing theory applied to derivatives and government bond markets. They also learn the latest econometrics and numerical analysis skills important in the marketplace. The course is demanding and challenging; applicants should have strong intellectual ability and be willing to work hard. The structure of the MSc Finance programme at Birkbeck reflects the long-running experience in cutting edge, research-led, evening teaching at Birkbeck. The programme is open to both full-time (one year) and part-time students (two years) and offer a rigorous training in finance. All programmes share the following features: Having completed the course, students have a solid grasp of a broad sweep of finance and are ready to work as quantitative analysts in financial markets, to study for a doctorate or to apply their knowledge in the exercise of public policy.
