Before going to BBK I worked for 3 and 1/2 years at ExxonMobil de Venezuela as Planning and Budget Analyst for the IT department.  My job was basically financial reporting and budget control in the technology department. However, from an academic perspective my focus was always banking and capital markets and it was difficult for me to move to the banking industry so I decided to go for my MSc at BBK in order to improve my chances to get into what I really like doing.

Fortunately, it has turned out just fine. After returning from London I started working at BBO Financial services, a Venezuelan brokerage firm, and just a month ago I started work at Citigroup here in Caracas in the Sales & Structuring Unit.

The Birkbeck programme is quite technical and demanding, but it has a very good advantage in that it shows you the core theory of modern finance in a rigorous fashion, which gives you valuable insights when you need to apply it. In other words, instead of only telling you how to use theory it shows you where all that theory came from.
